We are about to begin blogging on Kidblog.org.  This is a teacher-designed and run blogging website where safety, but worldwide access go hand in hand.

Each student in our class will have their own blogging space, but everything they post must first be approved online by me. Anyone in the world can read their posts, and commenting is allowed and encouraged, but again, all comments will be approved by me before being published.

Students in our class can find this years blog here:

We have just started this term's read aloud, and it promises to be a GREAT read! It is a novel called
"The Fourteenth Goldfish", written by Jennifer Holm. This brand new kids book (2014) is already garnering attention. It has been selected as one of several novels in the "Global Read Aloud" initiative which I am doing with our class. Essentially classes all around the world read, at the same time, the same novel. As long as no one reads ahead, then all classes are in the same place in the book by the end of each week. You typically read half a dozen chapters per week, and kids can then share thoughts, predictions, likes, dislikes with teachers and students in other cities or even countries.

As you would expect, we'll have lots of activities to do as we proceed through the book, but our number one priority is to catch up with the other classes who are also part of the Global Read Aloud. They will be at the end of Chapter 10 by the end of this week... and most haven't had a PD day as we did when there were no students in attendance, and also most weren't on Thanksgiving holiday... so as you can see, we've got our work cut out for us.

The most important thing is for students to not forge ahead. Classes, like ours, engaged in this project all do it as a read aloud by the teacher (hence the name). It is very important that students do not learn of what is to come in future chapters! We have a great reading adventure ahead of us!
